May 11, 2021 | Happenings Around the Blue Ridge |

Route 15 South Survey – The Loudoun County Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure (DTCI) is conducting a study of Route 15 (James Monroe Highway) from Leesburg south to the Prince William County line — approximately 12 miles. The study will identify safety and traffic operational issues and present recommended solutions to the Board of Supervisors. At the moment, DTCI is in the midst of a citizen survey to determine your preferences for various design concepts. The survey runs through May 21, 2021.  For background information and to take the survey please go to:  https://www.loudoun.gov/5370/Route-15-Virtual-Public-Input-Meeting

Solar Array Proposals/issues — Several landowners in our area, including at least one member of the Board of Directors of Friends of the Blue Ridge Mountains (FBRM), have recently received letters from private companies inquiring about leasing a portion of their property to construct solar panel arrays. The electricity generated would be harvested by the private company and would not be available to the landowner. These are relatively large arrays in that the companies are contacting landowners with a minimum of 20 acres. Currently Loudoun County does not have policies or procedures governing large solar arrays. On April 20th, the Board of Supervisors (BOS) enacted several measures directing the staff to begin to develop such policies and to coordinate with the ongoing rewrite of the County Zoning Ordinance.

Linear Parks and Trails Presentation re-scheduled – your thoughts requested – The consultant’s presentation to the Board of Supervisors regarding Linear Parks and Trails for Loudoun County has been re-scheduled from April 20th to May 4th. The public input session originally scheduled for April 28 will now occur sometime between May 27 – June 4. You can register for the meetings once they are posted here: https://www.loudoun.gov/5473/Key-Events-Schedule.

The first online survey which was scheduled to close in late April is still active as of May 1 at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PSRMGDC. A second survey should be launched any day. It will remain open until May 20.
